The 166-mile main event starts at 7:30 AM sharp on September 28th, 2024. The 66-mile short course race starts at 9:00 AM sharp. The 33-mile event starts at 9:30 AM sharp. We encourage you to show up early and get situated in your starting stage.

When can I pickup my packet?

We will have packet pickup from 2pm-7pm on Friday before the event at the start/finish line or on race morning from 6:30am-7:15am at the start/finish line. You can pickup a packet for another rider.

Note: 66 and 33 Mile racers will also be able to pickup their packet from 8:00am-8:45am.

Will the route be marked?

The Moran 166 route will not be marked. The Hiawatha National Forest is one of the most pristine and beautiful areas and we feel honored to host our event here. We respect their signage limits and will use those for marking caution areas for both racers and vehicles. We encourage you to download the maps on your GPS device.

What tires should I run?

We suggest running a 700x42c or larger tire for both courses. The gravel roads are usually in great shape but sometimes a bit loose and chunky if it has been dry or if they have been recently graded. A tire with good protection against flats is also recommended.

What are the checkpoints?

The 2024 Moran 166 route will have checkpoints roughly at miles 48, 77, 118, and 145. Each checkpoint will have water, ice, Coke, and assorted snacks. The 66 mile route will have a checkpoint at mile 48. There are no checkpoints for the 33-mile event.

Can I receive outside aid?

Racers can receive outside aid (water/nutrition) at the official checkpoints. Additionally, you may receive outside aid at Strongs Corner (around mile 107). Strong’s Tavern has snacks/beverages that can be purchased if needed. These are the only 5 points that you can receive outside assistance. You will be exempt for mechanical and medical reasons. *Outside aid is not required but riders are responsible for pickup if withdrawing from the event.

How does my crew get to the checkpoints?

For the safety and visibility of the racers, you are not permitted to drive on the official course, and we have a recommended route on our driving page. We highly recommend downloading and printing the PDF version for your crew.
